Is Chat with PDF free to use?

Chat with PDF requires signing in with Google and runs on AI credits — every account starts with 5 free credits, and each AI action uses one. All of PDF AutoPilot's non-AI tools stay free with no account.

What gets sent where?

PDF AutoPilot extracts the text in your browser; only that text goes to your processing server, which forwards it to the AI provider (Anthropic). The PDF file itself never leaves your device.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Only if they have a text layer. The chat is grounded in the extracted text, so run OCR PDF on a scan first — then come back and ask away.

What do I need to set up?

The PDF AutoPilot processing server must be running with an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY configured. Until then, the tool shows an "AI features are off" notice instead of pretending to work.
